Agon: The Infrastructure Race Behind European Defense
Call it a family business, but when we were first introduced to Tristam Constant and Junaid Hussain, the co-founders of Agon, there was already a rich history of lived experience coming from Cambridge Aerospace and the Anduril network. As one of the first investors in Anduril, XYZ has seen firsthand how exceptional talent compounds, backing companies including Forterra, Nominal, Rune Technologies, and Chariot Defense.
When we started digging in on Tristam and Junaid, we didn't have to go far. People we'd already backed, who worked alongside Tristam inside Anduril's European operation for years, vouched for him unprompted as one of the most trusted, highest-integrity operators to come out of that network. Tristam spent over a decade inside the UK Ministry of Defense before joining Anduril as one of its first senior commercial hires in Europe, and most recently ran European Defense at Applied Intuition.
Junaid founded defense unicorn Cambridge Aerospace with Steven Barrett and Chris Sylvan (ex-Anduril). He has spent his career building a repeatable model for founding technology companies. As Cambridge has become one of the fastest-growing defense companies in Europe, it has given him a front-row seat to one of the most important needs facing the ecosystem: the infrastructure to test and train autonomy at the pace the threat environment demands.
Agon is building the foundational infrastructure for the era of agentic warfare. Sovereign infrastructure, purpose-built for Europe, where autonomous weapon systems learn to fight before they ever see a live threat. Underneath that is Agon’s first product: an AI-native platform where autonomous systems are trained and tested against realistic, adaptive adversaries drawn from live conflict intelligence, powered by accelerated simulation at massive parallel scale, generating orders of magnitude more data than is possible in the physical world.
That compresses development cycles and generates the reproducible evidence procurement officers need. It's starting with the hardest near-term problem, air defense against threats like the Shahed-238, building a scenario library that compounds with every design partner who plugs in. Agon has already established design partnerships with a range of platform makers across Europe and its allied community.
This isn't a policy choice; it's a battlefield lesson. Ukraine has shown Europe how fast the threat environment moves. A jet-powered drone can go from concept to real threat in under a year, while procurement still takes two to three. The Baltic and Arctic flank tell the same story. Europe doesn't lack the demand signal to build its own defense autonomy stack. It has lacked a sovereign infrastructure layer that lets its platform makers actually build fast. Agon is building the missing piece Europe needs to move at the speed its front lines are already moving.
The team building it has spent their careers inside the exact user communities that will need it most. Since our investment, Tristam and Junaid have already assembled a phenomenal team of leaders who have built, deployed, and operated autonomous systems — from the battlefield to the simulation engine. The team combines operational military, research, and industry experience, with leaders from Applied Intuition, Helsing, Anduril, Palantir, Cambridge Aerospace, Unity, Google, and AWS.
We are proud to be investing in the latest $23M Seed round led by Lakestar, with participation from Northzone and Lux Capital alongside existing investors including Ora Global, Global Founders Capital, Never Lift, D3, and 201 Ventures. This brings total funding to over $30M.
